One of the best parts of travel? New cuisine, cool restaurant vibes, and hopefully a table with a view. But let’s be real—when you’re on the go, museum-hopping and Tube-dodging, sometimes you just want something quick, easy, and not deep-fried in mystery batter.
Whether you’re jetlagged, hangry, or just need something to fuel your next castle crawl, here are my top picks for grab-and-go food in England that won’t make you feel like you’ve been defeated by another sad airport sandwich.
My London ride-or-die. Sure, you’ve seen Pret in the States, but the UK version? Whole different league. The menus in England are loaded with high-protein, fresh options that make your average deli look like a gas station snack aisle.
My go-to is their spinach, hard-boiled egg, and smoked salmon breakfast pot—zero fluff, all fuel. Their soups are cozy, the salads are crisp, and their peach green tea is a dream in a bottle.
👉 Local tip: Want to sound like you belong? Say it with a hard “T” in “Pret,” not the Frenchy soft one. Brits will love you for it.
I stumbled upon Itsu behind Paddington Station in Sheldon Square, and it was like finding a hidden health-food oasis in the middle of the urban jungle. This Asian-inspired spot serves up hot miso, sushi boxes, and steamy protein-packed noodle tubs that feel more spa day than fast food.
There are multiple locations for Itsu in the UK, but if you’re passing through Paddington – this is a great little one tucked in the back of the mania from the train station. Grab a bite and just relax. You’re in London afterall. 🏴
If you’re craving clean eats that taste like actual food (not cardboard with kale on top), give Itsu a shot.
Grab a salad, wrap, or half-chicken (if you’re feeling primal), and dig into something that’s both satisfying and shockingly healthy. And yes, you can do takeaway if you’re in a hurry. But why rush happiness?
As an American traveling abroad, I always end up craving some food that reminds me of home. When that craving hits, Byron is my go-to.
Their burgers are incredible and made with actual beef—not that weird mystery meat masquerading as food in some fast food joints back home.
You can build your own burger or choose from their curated lineup (which, frankly, is hard to beat). Seriously – don’t pass on Bryon. They melt in your mouth.
And for those with food allergies? Byron is next-level accommodating. They’ve got a full allergen guide and staff who actually know how to use it. Score one for the sensitive stomach crew.
Travel doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your taste buds (or your gut health). England has a ton of fantastic grab-and-go options that’ll keep you fueled without slowing you down. These are just a few of my favorites.
Whether you’re team soup pot, sushi roll, spicy chicken, or cheeky burger—there’s something delicious waiting around the corner.
