🛳️ Cruising with Bubbly Before Boarding

Welcome aboard! Whether you’re a cruise newbie or a seasoned sea queen, this is your one-stop port for everything you need to know before you hit the high seas.

From choosing the perfect cruise line to packing hacks and shore excursion tips, this page is here to make your cruise planning smoother than a glass of Prosecco on embarkation day.

💖 Why I Love Cruising (And Why You Might, Too)

It’s no secret—I’m obsessed with cruising. The ocean views, the endless food, the towel animals with more personality than some people I’ve dated… I live for it. 🛳️✨

No matter the cruise line, I’ve always had a fabulous experience. Friendly crew, sparkling clean ships, good vibes all around—and yes, even the crowds are more manageable than at Costco on a Sunday.

So how do you choose the right cruise line for your next sea-bound adventure? Don’t worry, I’ve got some insider tips to help you find your perfect floating paradise.

🌍 Where to Cruise?

When I chat with clients about booking a cruise, it’s interesting how many immediately picture nothing but heat waves, beach towels, and banana boat rides. And sure, if sun, sand, and snorkeling are your thing — cruising totally delivers.

But here’s the juicy secret: cruising can be SO much more. Think fjords and glaciers. Wine tastings in Italy. Castles on the Danube. Heck, you can even cruise in a parka if that’s your vibe.

The high seas aren’t one-size-fits-all — they’re more like an all-you-can-sail buffet of amazing options.

Caribbean

☀️  Sun, sand, and rum punch.

☀️  Perfect for first-timers, beach lovers, and winter escapees.

Mediterranean

🏛️  Sail through history and pasta

🏛️  Think Italy, Greece, Spain—hello, gelato and ancient ruins

Alaska

🐳  Glaciers, whales, and lumberjack chic

🐳  Bring your binoculars and sense of awe

Europe River Cruises

🏰 Smaller ships, bigger charm

🏰 Castles, wine tastings, and fairytale towns await

🛥️ The BIG SIX

Booking a cruise can be challenging & I highly recommend doing so with a travel professional. Contact me if you would like assistance (& reassurance) before booking your next great getaway!

Before you go –  here’s some insider highlights on what I consider to before you go!

The “Fun Ship” party starter with a budget-friendly price tag.

Pros:

  • One of the most affordable cruise lines out there.
  • Non-stop entertainment: think comedy clubs, water slides, and deck parties.
  • Great for families, friend groups, and fun-loving travelers.
  • Tons of short itineraries (3–5 days) = easy weekend getaways.

Cons:

  • Not exactly a luxury experience—think more flip-flops than Ferragamo.
  • Can be loud, crowded, and a bit rowdy (especially on shorter sailings).
  • Limited enrichment or quiet spaces for chill time.

Best for: Budget-conscious travelers, party people, first-timers, multigenerational families who don’t mind a little chaos.

The overachiever with mega-ships, skydiving simulators, and robot bartenders.

Pros:

  • MASSIVE ships with seriously wild activities (surfing, rock climbing, zip-lining).
  • Great for families, kids, and adventurous adults.
  • Excellent private island (Perfect Day at CocoCay = actual paradise).
  • Consistently solid food and service.

Cons:

  • Can feel like a floating theme park—amazing or overwhelming, depending on your vibe.
  • Older ships in the fleet can feel dated.
  • Add-ons can get pricey (drink packages, specialty dining, etc.).

Best for: Active families, thrill-seekers, tech lovers, and travelers who want “Vegas at sea.”

The freestyle rebel with modern ships and “do what you want” vibes.

Pros:

  • “Freestyle cruising” = no set dining times, lots of flexibility.
  • Strong entertainment game (Broadway-style shows, live music, comedy).
  • Beautiful newer ships (like Prima and Encore).
  • Great solo traveler options (studio cabins + solo lounges!).

Cons:

  • Nickel-and-diming can be aggressive (hello, upcharges for everything).
  • Drink and dining packages can feel like algebra equations.
  • Can lack the polish of premium lines.

Best for: Independent travelers, foodies, solo cruisers, and people who hate being told what to do (yeah, that’s me 🙋‍♀️).

The elegant classic with a love of romance and enrichment over roller coasters.

Pros:

  • Great itineraries—especially Alaska, the Med, and longer sailings.
  • More chill, grown-up atmosphere.
  • Beautiful ships with solid food, service, and some nice “premium” touches.
  • MedallionClass tech makes embarkation and onboard stuff super smooth.

Cons:

  • Less flashy and “wow factor” than others.
  • Not ideal for kids or people who need constant activity.
  • Some ships are due for updates.

Best for: Romantic getaways, mature travelers, scenic destinations, and fans of The Love Boat nostalgia.

Wholesome, magical, and sprinkled with pixie dust (and a hefty price tag).

Pros:

  • INSANE attention to detail—clean, classy, and super well run.
  • Best-in-class kids’ clubs (and Castaway Cay is iconic).
  • Fantastic stateroom layouts, family-friendly menus, and entertainment.
  • Separate adults-only spaces (bless you, Disney).

Cons:

  • Not a ton of nightlife or gambling (sorry, casino lovers).
  • May not appeal to child-free adults (unless you’re a Disney diehard).

Best for: Families with kids, Disney superfans, and anyone craving wholesome magic on the high seas.

The cool older sister of Royal Caribbean—sleek, chic, and a little more bougie.

Pros:

  • Stylish, modern ships (Edge class = 👏).
  • Amazing food—honestly, some of the best at sea.
  • Excellent service and elevated vibes without being stuffy.
  • Lots of inclusive fare options (drink packages, Wi-Fi, tips).

Cons:

  • Pricier than Carnival/NCL, though not quite “luxury.”
  • Less entertainment variety compared to mega-lines.
  • May skew older unless you pick newer ships/itineraries.

Best for: Grown-up cruisers, foodies, couples, and travelers who want a touch of luxury without the tuxedo.

🧳 What to Pack for a Cruise

This simple list:

  • Passport (yes, even for closed-loop cruises — better safe than stranded!)
  • Carry-on essentials for embarkation day
  • Swimsuits, Sunnies, & Coverups
  • Excursion daywear with walking shoes
  • A linen tote bag for shopping!
  • A hat (or two or three)
  • Formal night attire (think cocktail, not Oscars)
  • Power strip (non-surge!)
  • Magnetic hooks (tiny cabins = vertical storage magic)
  • Not much else – remember you’ll be shopping at some point, right?  💜

✨ Bonus Cruise Packing Tips:

  • Magnetic hooks for vertical storage
  • Non-surge power strip (most cabins have limited outlets)
  • Lanyard for key card
  • Small first aid kit
  • Motion sickness bands or meds
  • Ziploc bags (for wet clothes, snacks, or random stuff)

Bon voyage, friends! 🍾

🧼 Real Talk: Cruise Tips & Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don’t fly on the same day your ship departs. (Seriously.)
  • Don’t pack your passport in your checked luggage. Please.
  • Don’t skip travel insurance. Ever.
  • Don’t overpack. You will wear the same outfit twice.
  • Don’t assume Wi-Fi is fast (or free).
